Koi Turnbull
Koi Turnbull was born in Elmhurst, Queens NY. He spent most of his upbringing in New York, but in 1991 at the age of 13 he moved down south to Asheboro, North Carolin. In Asheboro, he spent 6 years of his life learning the ins and outs of comics while working at a comic store. In 1997 he felt it was time for him to move back to New York and get into his chosen career: comics. There he crafted his skills on various background projects for Marvel artists Adam Pollian and Walter McDaniel.
In 2002, Koi felt it was time for another change and took his skills back to Asheboro, NC. However that same year, Koi’s big break appeared at the Wizard World Chicago convention. Koi was able to show his samples to Aspen MLT’s Vice President of Publishing, Peter Steigerwald, and Executive Vice President, Frank Mastromauro. The two vice presidents liked Turnbull’s work so much that they asked him to call back the week following Wizard World Chicago so that they might discuss possible employment.
Upon receiving a job at Aspen MLT, Turnbull in 2003 moved out to California, working in their Marina Del Rey studio and living in Santa Monica. He become a huge artist for multiple Fathom comic series. Since Aspen, Koi Turnbull has gone on to work for DC comics, Marvel Comics and other projects. He is currently working with Marvel Comics and a member of HeadHunta’ Studios along with other industry members Nathan Massengill, Dave Wilkins, and Tony Washington to name a few.
